  • determination of biofilm production capacity by selected veterinary pathogens

  • multiplication and titration of animal viruses in cell cultures and chicken embryos
  • evaluation of the effects of antiviral substances on the multiplication of viruses in cell cultures, with a preliminary determination of the stage of the viral cycle they affect
  • evaluation of the virucidal effect of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the veterinary field

Methodology used and research conducted

  • acquisition of primary cell cultures (chicken embryo fibroblasts, fish and mammalian peripheral blood leukocytes, fish and mammalian organ lymphocytes and phagocytes)
  • functional evaluation of cells of the immune system (bacterial engulfment capacity and aerobic burst of phagocytes; proliferative activity of lymphocytes stimulated by mitogens and specific antigens; cytokine production) by colorimetric methods and using flow cytometry
  • immunophenotyping of cells using a flow cytometer
  • working with cell lines from the ATCC collection
  • evaluation of cytotoxicity of substances using colorimetric cytotoxicity assays (MTT, NRU, LDH, SRB)

 

Diagnostic laboratory


The laboratory offers services in the following areas:

  • isolation and identification of selected veterinary pathogens from clinical specimens (classical bacteriology and mycology, identification using PCR technique)
  • determination of the antibiotic resistance profile of isolated pathogens using the disk-diffusion method (antibiogram, antimycogram)
  • preparation of auto vaccines (selected pathogens)
