Historical background

The unit was established in 1969 as the Department of Reproductive Pathology and Obstetrics. In the past 40 years, it has had different names and has been part of periodically different organizational units. Currently, it is the Department of Animal Reproduction with Clinic. Its founder and first director was Prof. Antoni Żebracki, who held this position until 1984. Subsequently, until 1997, the unit was headed by Prof. Tadeusz Glazer, then until 2020 by Prof. Tomasz Janowski, and since 2021 by Prof. Sławomir Zduńczyk. The staff of the unit has fluctuated at various times. Currently, the staff includes 2 titular professors, 2 university professors, 2 habilitated doctor, 2 doctors, 1 assistant, and 4 engineering and technical staff. The Department has several specialized research laboratories: ultrasound, cytology and andrology, molecular biology and proteomics, large and small animal reproduction clinics, and a mobile clinic. Student Scientific Clubs are actively working in the department. The Department has carried out several grants from the State Committee for Scientific Research and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as well as two European grants, and has for many years conducted extensive scientific and didactic cooperation with recognized foreign institutions and veterinary and breeding practices.
